My Healing Philosophy
Jackie Baker, Licensed Massage Therapist
Your body is unique. No day is the same. Sometimes your treatment may be geared towards one concern and the next visit, another. I believe it is wonderful to listen to your inner voice before each session to honor and communicate your needs upon arrival to my space.
I learned the art of holistic-minded bodywork from The Wellspring School for Healing Arts in Oregon and am humbled to offer a variety of bodywork styles to the Des Moines area. My style may be described as a dynamic blend of deeper therapeutic work and gentle relaxation techniques. I often utilize a combination of Eastern and Western massage styles to create a unique and well-rounded massage experience. I enjoy setting the intention of helping others find moments of peace from the intensity of daily life, and to help reconnect and deepen their relationship with their physical bodies.
Benefits of Massage Therapy
Massage has been used for thousands of years to promote optimal wellness of body, mind, emotion, and of the spirit. Massage aims to improve our sense of well-being, promote postural & energetic alignment, reduce pain, reduce tension, prevent injury, improve circulation, and many more benefits.
What is Cupping Therapy?
Cupping is much like the inverse of massage – rather than applying pressure to muscles, it uses gentle or intense pressure (depending on our intention) to pull them upward thereby encouraging blood flow and opening lymphatic pathways for increased circulation. This can relieve pain and inflammation in joints and muscles and stimulate the immune system.
What is Amma Therapy?
“Amma” is the oldest Chinese word to describe massage. Amma is a specialized form of massage therapy that combines deep and gentle pressure and acupressure point stimulation with the therapist’s hands. This ancient method treats imbalances in the energy system according to the principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Amma Therapy focuses on the balance and movement of Qi (energy) within the body.
